Shanghai · DECO — known locally as the Joyful Star Chenyang Hotel (上海浦东机场海上铂悦酒店) — is a light-luxury themed hotel under Shanghai Star Hyatt Hotel Management Co., Ltd. It opened in 2017 and was fully refreshed in 2023, and it stands at No. 815 Chenyang Road in Zhuqiao Town, Pudong New Area: close enough to Pudong International Airport that the drive takes about fifteen minutes, and far enough from the terminals that the neighbourhood stays quiet at midnight. The hotel manages something rare — genuine style at airport-hotel prices.
Every detail follows one idea. The interiors are dressed in ART DECO style, the design language of 1930s Shanghai, when the Bund was a forest of gold, lacquer and geometric light. Walking into the lobby after a long flight feels less like checking into an airport hotel and more like stepping into an old Shanghai film set — with a free hourly shuttle waiting outside to take you to your gate.
The idea behind the DECO
Art Deco is Shanghai’s native style. The city’s grandest hotels, banks and ballrooms were built in the 1920s and 30s, and their stepped lines, sunburst motifs and golden symmetry still define the Bund today. The hotel borrows that vocabulary and runs it through modern comfort: Sleemon sleep mattresses in every room, blackout curtains, fast Wi-Fi, and gold accents that photograph beautifully after a red-eye.
The scale stays human. There are 158 guest rooms across a main building and a quieter Annex, a 200-seat Chinese restaurant, a 300-square-metre Melbourne-style coffee house, and a 100-person conference room. It is small enough that the front desk recognises returning guests, and large enough to host a wedding party, a sports team or a training group without breaking a sweat.

The numbers that matter
- 4.5 km to Pudong International Airport — about 15 minutes by car, with a free scheduled shuttle every hour, 24 hours a day.
- 15 km to Shanghai Disneyland — about 20 minutes by the free daily shuttle.
- 9.2/10 guest score on Trip.com from 4,780 verified reviews, with Service scoring 9.4.
- From $42 per night — including the shuttle, the laundry room and parking.
Who the DECO is built for
Four kinds of travellers check in here again and again. Early-flyers who would rather sleep beside the airport than set a 3 am alarm in the city centre. Transit guests on a one-night stopover who want a hot shower, a real bed and an honest breakfast. Disneyland families who use the free park shuttle and the two-queen family rooms. And business groups working around the Oriental Modern Business Plaza and Florentia Village, who book the conference room downstairs and the king rooms upstairs.
Whichever one you are, the promise is the same: check in tired, check out human.
